Lauri Hilgeman Ghormley, Class of 1981, was an accomplished three sport athlete and was the Warriors defensive post on the two Norwalk state championship teams grabbing a school record 464 rebounds during her career as well as a three year letter winner. She was selected as a member of the all-tournament team as well as a 1st Team All-State guard and a member of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union All-Star Team in 1981. Her athletic accomplishments were not however just on the basketball floor. Lauri was a three year letter winner in track and competed in the state track and field championships placing 3rd in the discus in 1979 and then 6th in 1981 in the same event. In addition Lauri was a three letter winner in softball and a member of the fall state softball runner-up championship teams in 1979 & 1980. A member of the national honor society for two years Lauri graduated 3rd in her class and attended Grand View College on a basketball, art, and academic scholarship. Unfortunately her basketball career came to an end in her freshmen year at Grandview after tearing an ACL in her knee. She now resides in Chariton, Iowa along with her husband Will the two youngest out of eight children Augustus and Patriot.
